Minecraft Torch Crafting Guide

I. Regular Torch

  1. Crafting Recipe: 1 Coal (or Charcoal) + 1 Stick. Place them vertically adjacent in a 2×2 crafting grid (Coal/Charcoal on top, Stick below) to craft 4 Torches at once.
  2. Material Acquisition:
    • Stick: Craft 4 Sticks by placing 2 Wooden Planks vertically stacked in a crafting grid. Planks are crafted from logs (1 Log = 4 Planks).
    • Coal: Mine Coal Ore with a pickaxe.
    • Charcoal: Smelt logs in a Furnace using Planks or Coal as fuel.
  3. Core Uses: Provides light level 14. Prevents monster spawning in areas with light level 7 or lower. Melts snow and ice within a 2-block radius. Can be placed on the top or side of blocks.

II. Redstone Torch

  1. Crafting Recipe: 1 Redstone Dust + 1 Stick. Place them vertically adjacent in a 2×2 crafting grid (Redstone Dust on top, Stick below) to craft 1 Redstone Torch.
  2. Material Acquisition: Redstone Dust is obtained by mining Redstone Ore (commonly found below Y=16). Sticks are acquired as above.
  3. Core Uses: Emits a redstone signal strength of 15. Used for creating logic gates and activating circuits. Provides only light level 7, offering no significant anti-monster lighting effect.

III. Soul Torch

  1. Crafting Recipe: 1 Coal (or Charcoal) + 1 Stick + 1 Soul Sand (or Soul Soil). Place them vertically stacked in a 3×3 crafting grid (Coal/Charcoal on top, Stick in the middle, Soul Sand/Soul Soil below) to craft 1 Soul Torch.
  2. Material Acquisition: Soul Sand and Soul Soil generate only in the Nether. Other materials are acquired as above.
  3. Core Uses: Emits a blue light at level 10. Prevents Piglins from attacking the player. Lower light level than a regular torch, suitable for Nether exploration and decoration.

Minecraft Torch Crafting Method:

  1. Prepare Tools: Craft a Crafting Table (4 Planks). Make Sticks from Planks. Smelt Charcoal or mine Coal.
  2. Recipe Placement: Place the corresponding materials in the crafting grid according to the torch type. Pick up the finished product after crafting.
  3. Placement Rules: Regular and Soul Torches can be placed on the top or sides of blocks. Redstone Torches must be placed on the sides of blocks. Water flow or block destruction will cause torches to drop.

Helpful Tips:

  • Regular Torches can be combined with a Carved Pumpkin to craft a Jack o’Lantern (usable underwater), or with an Iron Nugget to craft a Lantern. Soul Torches can be used to craft Soul Lanterns.
  • Bedrock Edition and Education Edition feature special variants like Underwater Torches and Colored Torches, which require additional materials (e.g., Magnesium, Chloride).
